Karen Shoemaker - Author Visit

Thursday, May 31

Wayne Public Library will host Nebraska Author, Karen Gettert Shoemaker. Ms. Shoemaker is the author of the novel The Meaning of Names, the One Book One Nebraska selection for 2016. This event will be part of a series of pre-Chautauqua programs. The Meaning of Name is set in Stuart, Nebraska in farm country in the heart of America in 1918. It is the story of an ordinary woman trying to raise a family during extraordinary times. Estranged from her parents, confronted with violence, and caught up in the midst of the worst plague the world has ever seen, Gerda Vogel, an American of German descent, must find the strength to keep her family safe from the effects of a war that threatens to consume the whole world. Copies of the novel will be available at the library so participants have the opportunity to read the novel before the author’s visit. This program, sponsored by the Library, Friends of the Library, and Humanities Nebraska, is free and open to the public.
