[ARCHIVED] City of Wayne Facilities Closed to the Public

Wayne Nebraska logo

Effective at 9:00 p.m. today, all City of Wayne facilities are closed to the public until further notice.  A recap of the situation at our various facilities:

CITY HALL
Staff members are present and performing normal day-to-day functions at City Hall and may be contacted at (402) 375-1733 or by email (info@cityofwayne.org) between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Utility payments, parking tickets, etc. being made by cash or check may be left in either of the two drop boxes at City Hall. One is located beside the front door, and the other is located near the lower back door on the west side of the building (drive alongside the building between the garage and the ramp).

On your utility bills, if you are paying by cash and do not have exact change, please pay to the closest dollar amount. If you pay more on your bill, we will place a credit on your next month’s bill. If you pay less, you will have a past due amount on your next bill.

We would encourage customers to utilize our auto bank draft and online bill pay options.  Please call or email city hall staff to setup autopay, or visit this link: https://www.municipalonlinepayments.com/waynene to pay your utility bill online.  As a final option, you may also pay your utility bill over the phone with your credit/debit card.

WAYNE POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Wayne Police Department, as always, will be staffed 24/7. Should you need assistance, please feel free to call (402) 375-2626 at any time day or night. If you need to speak in person with a member of the Wayne PD, please call to make that arrangement.  Remember, in an emergency, please dial 911

If you need to pay a parking ticket or make other payment to the Police Department, please deposit said payment in one of the two payment drop boxes at City Hall.

WAYNE PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Wayne Public Library is now closed to the public until further notice. Although there will be no access for the public, the book drop will still be available to return items and staff will be available to answer phone calls at (402) 375-3135 and emails at library@cityofwayne.org during their normal operating hours. Also feel free to message the WPL staff on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/waynepubliclibrary1902) with any questions.

WAYNE SENIOR CENTER
The Wayne Senior Center is now closed to the public for all in-house dining and social activities. Senior Center staff will still be providing Meals on Wheels and curb-side pickup meal service for noon meals. Please call the Senior Center staff at (402) 375-1460 for details and information or email them (srcenter@cityofwayne.org) on how the process will work. Senior Center staff will be available Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

CITY AUDITORIUM / WAYNE FIRE HALL

Finally, we encourage all residents of Wayne to follow the recommendations put forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in regards to guiding principals as we deal with the COVID-19 outbreak:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

More information from the CDC is available by visiting: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html

These steps are being implemented out of an abundance of caution and are intended to protect residents and visitors. The public may keep up with City news and activities by visiting this website (https://www.cityofwayne.org) or following our social media accounts on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CityofWayneNE) and Twitter (@CityofWayne)
