City of Wayne Receives $15,000 Grant from The Kansas City Royals Foundation

The City of Wayne is pleased to announce that it has received a $15,000 grant from the Kansas City Royals Foundation, the charitable arm of the Kansas City Royals Major League Baseball organization. This grant award will be used for fencing improvements at both Hank Overin Field and the ball complex at Prairie Park.

The grant funding will specifically be used to replace the north (3rd base/Left Field) fence at Hank Overin Field. This will match the east fence that was replaced in 2023. Grant funding will also be used to replace/repair back stop netting at the ball complex at Prairie Park.

"The City of Wayne truly appreciates the Kansas City Royals Foundation for its financial support for park and recreation improvements in our community. This contribution will help with fencing upgrades at Hank Overin Field and netting at our sports complex," said Parks and Recreation Director Lowell Heggemeyer. "We are grateful for the KC Royals Foundation and its support well outside the KC metro area."

Mayor Cale Giese added," These improvements will make our facilities safer and more enjoyable environments for both players and spectators. This grant goes beyond upgrading our fields -- it is an investment in our community."

The City of Wayne will have additional announcements in the future concerning other Parks and Recreation projects, concentrating on Prairie Park this next year. The City plans to hold an open house and ribbon cutting for Prairie Park on Friday, May 30th at the weekly Chamber Coffee event.
