Glass Recycling
Bring your glass bottles to the Wayne RTC for recycling. The City of Wayne Green Team has partnered with Ripple Glass out of Kansas City to pick up and recycle our community's glass for free. Ripple Glass even rewards communities with funds for achieving goals of year-over-year growth on glass tonnage collected. Since our program started in 2016, we have recycled over 142 tons of glass, which has been made into bottles and fiberglass insulation.
Where do I take my glass?
Bring your clean and rinsed glass bottles to the metal bins at the Wayne RTC located at 110 Windom Street. Click here for the Wayne RTC’s current hours. There is no charge to recycle at the Wayne RTC.
What kind of glass can I recycle at the Wayne Transfer Station?
The following clean and rinsed glass is accepted:
- Glass food and beverage containers, all colors
- Labels and caps can remain on the glass
- Glassware such as wine and pint glasses
- Glass candle holders – the wax does not need to be entirely removed, but little should remain
- Plate glass when pre-approved by Ripple Glass – all hardware, framing, casings and spacers must be removed and laminated glass is not accepted
What kind of glass is not accepted for recycling?
- No windshields
- No ceramic, porcelain or milk glass
- No laminated glass
- No mirrors
What happens when the metal bins are full of glass?
Once the metal bins are full, the RTC operator will move the glass to the concrete bunker located next to the Boy Scouts Paper Trailer. Once the bunker is full, Ripple Glass will then pick up the glass for recycling into fiberglass insulation and bottles.
Can I have glass picked up at my home instead?
No, the current private hauler in Wayne, Waste Connections, does not accept glass via curbside recycling.
